Most of us skim through postings and skip those we know have already been answered in FAQ. This allows us time to give more thoughtful responses to new questions. Please remember that no one is paid to contribute to this forum, so any and all assistance you may receive may be attributed only to time and expertise *generously* volunteered by our members.
2) Although some mentor-type relationships have developed with promising rookies on the board, participating doesn't constitute a formal mentor/protege arrangement, or any professional affiliation with our senior members and administrators. If you would like to request the guidance of a mentor with whom you may be able to form a more formal relationship, go to www.makeupmentors.com.
3) We are happy to be able to share our knowledge with newcomers. When MUA's at all levels work at a top tier level of quality, it gives ALL of us more credibility and career opportunities. However, no amount of technical guidance can substitute for your own hard work. There is no magic wand, product, or magic tip/technique. We have all learned from the ground up, and paid some hard (sometimes laughable) dues. If what you really desire is accelerated, personalized training in professional makeup artistry, we encourage you to hire one of us for expert private guidance and technical training.
4) Speaking of training, many of us have attended workshops and schools all over the country/world. If
you read through this forum, FAQ, and Mary's Q&A page, you will glean important information about others' experiences with specific workshops, schools and teachers. If, after reading these links, you decide you need more specific help, ask. Because we are not affiliated with any specific educational organization, you can look forward to objective input.
5) Forum Etiquette - In order that we may maintain a high standard of professional courtesy and general
positivity, it is essential that you read and follow the guidelines for forum etiquette. Because we insist on adherance to these these guidelines, we are able to invite you into a safe, reliably honest, and happy environment.
6) It's recommended that you hang out and read the board a bit. This will give you a peek into the writing styles and personalities behind our regular posters. Because one of the most valuable learning tools we have via this board is a forum for HONEST, constructive critiques, it could be easy for sensitive newcomers to misinterpret someone's helpful honesty for more hurtful criticism.
