Hello

I'm another DC person. My name is Crystal Banks and I have been a member/obsessive lurker since Nov 2002. I have been doing makeup on and off for about 6 years now but am definitely still a newbie. Without this board, I still would have been stuck behind a counter wasting time and getting nowhere. I thank everyone on here, newbies and vets. The newbies for asking the same questions that I have and the Vets for answering them

Although I am in love with all things dealing with makeup, I also love socks. I love all kinds of crazy designs and different colors and characters and all lenghts...

I'm full time freelance in the UK, living in Brighton and working in London (and meeting Lucy when she's in London :belch

My name is Shar. I am not a professional ....yet, but i love makeup and love learning all about it and intend to become a professional at it.

I learned about this forum from KJ (who kicks ass) I got the pleasure of taking the bridal makeup class thru last looks and he was the teacher. I also met Emelle when she came to visit her buddy KJ. :)

I am just reading and soaking in all that i can from everyone on here and i love it.
can't wait til i have some of my own awesome work to display.

Hi All,
My name is Mai and I've been living in Brisbane, Australia for six months. I am originally from Melbourne, Australia.

I have an office day job but makeup fills in the rest of the time. You can say i'm makeup obsessed and have lots ands lots of product. I just like to try everything and feel i must know everything about makeup

(the day job and the little plastic card fund this crazy obsession)

I've been playing Makeup Artist for 2-3 years only. Makeup was beginning to take off for me in Melbourne but then my partner got a job in Brisbane so i've had to start again, not that i took too many steps back :goofy

)

I've been doing some testing so hope to get a good book together and the guts to post for some feedback.

BTW-I love this board!!!

Hi

I'm a total slashie.

I'm a senior designer/art director at a small design firm; when we have a concept that requires original photography, I fill the roles of producer/location scout/set and wardrobe stylist/hair and make-up artist/art director. I love the variety and have been doing this for coming up to 20 years.

What I am new to is freelancing as a hair/make-up artist for fashion and testing, so I am still learning sooooooo much about that industry and beauty products and techniques.

My name is Devin and I am new here and working on becoming a successful freelance artist. I mostly do weddings here in Houston, but am thinking about New York to further my career. I absolutely have a passion for makeup and want to be the best at what I do. I am constantly looking to learn new things and grow in this tough industry. I enjoy all the tips, critiques, and techniques that the vets here provide. I look forward to having my first shoot and many more. I would love to work in editorial, commercial, fashion. Hello!

I'm emma, newbie artist from NYC. I got involved with makeup 2 yrs ago and took a few classes then... though didn't get into it seriously until the beginning of this year and decided to give it a chance (yay!). As of right now, I'm testing and assisting and so far things have been pretty good. Best part of it all, is that I'm learning a lot as i go. I also want to say that I really enjoy coming in here and receiving great advice from a lot of you wonderful artists! Thank you!

Hey all! I'm Dianna and I've been a member for I think like two years maybe? I check the board daily... so I don't know how I missed this thread all this time??! haha

I don't always have time to post, but I always read and learn SO MUCH from the board. It truly is an AMAZING resource.

I am from Boston, live and work here as a full time makeup artist for the past 7 years. I do tons of Bridal (which kind of happened by accident...) and a good amount of print/commercial work. I have been trying to break more and more into the print, tv&film, and commercial industries over the last few years. I want to break away from the Bridal industry before it takes over my life (ha!) and do more commercial type work. I always wanted to do mainly fashion work (that's what my degree is in).. but I am realizing it doesn't really exist here in Boston!

I do what I can to keep it interesting since moving to NYC is not an option for me.

I also recently started giving classes for aspiring artists and personal lessons for people. I really love teaching and I am enjoying it!! Plus, it fills in the gaps in my schedule when its slow. It is amazing how taking a step back and teaching someone what you have learned puts things back into perspective for you!

Emmy here from Canada. I mostly do society makeup (bridal, proms, etc), with some commercials here and there.

I'm Lauri. Just a regular hairstylist since 1982. And I've already pissed a couple of you off!

Inadvertantly...

I worked for about 23 years in a very busy 'higher end' type of salon in Santa Barbara County that offered loads of education, as the owner, Hans Wolf, has won many awards, and helped Gordon Stewart in starting his 'Stewart Schools' in the Midwest. He also travels the world to educate.

Anyone hear of Walter Claudio and/or Billy Yamaguchi?

YEP...we all started at the same salon. Billy actually started a couple of years behind me. Glad to see both are very successful!

I 'dabbled' with doing hair for photo shoots and small modeling shows in Santa Barbara back in the day, but really realized I had no interest in getting 'involved' in the big time industry. Really do not like the 'limelight'! I just like being a stylist, making my clients look good and be happy. Also I love the social part of having a long time 'family' of clients.

I've now 'retired' closer to my new home to a little 'hole-in-the-wall' salon that is owned by a former co-worker. I mostly work with cuts and colors, and though I have to admit I'm really great with color (hi/low lighting mostly and ENOUGH color corrections), I'd like to learn a whole lot more.

Like how to get that PERFECT all-over blonde. Can get it when foiling (no problem!), but how in the hell do they do it? :duh

Hello...

I figured I better introduce myself as I've been lurking and reading old posts for quite some time now

I'm Kim and I've just recently become very interested in make up. Well, I've always loved make up and spent a good deal of each paycheck buying make up from the Macy's where I work but just recently I made the move and am now working behind the Elizabeth Arden counter as a "product pusher" LOL. Hopefully one day I'll be able to go to school to get an esthetician's (wow... I hate spelling that word... is that even right?) license so I could potentially do bridal work but the beauty school near me, I've heard it wasn't very good at all

In any case, I've already learned so much from reading all the old posts on this forum and it seems like everyone here is so talented. It's been fun so far.

Hi Everyone!
I have frequented this forum for over a year and finally decided to sign up. Like most, I have been too shy and stuff. I don't have much of my work to show since I have mainly done indie films. :sad

Since I was 5 years old I wanted to do make-up. My mom still remembers buying me my "little miss make-up" doll (anyone remember this? you could do her makeup my rubbing water or something over that area) I loved that doll! hehe. Anyhow. At 19 I was studying theater and makeup... then I fell into a career driven path and nearly forgot my passions.

So, 6 years later... I just finished up beauty school, esthetics... quite a waste, but I really wanted to learn skin care because it is very important to know as an MUA. I am really interested in FX and want to focus on film and television. I really want to assist a senior artist, and learn from the best!

I am 25, single, no kids, and I moved back with my parents 2 years ago when my mom became very ill. So, besides my mom... I have nothing holding me back!
I am currently trying to make the big move to L.A... but I can't make-up my mind. :dunno

(I'm scared!)
