Hi, I'm miako from Johannesburg South Africa. I studied makeup as part of Somatology years ago and later on decided to go into IT because I was silly
enough to chase after "big paycheck" careers. Years later I was miserable & still broke. Now I've decided to just follow my passion, and
money will follow. So I'm new to this business & only starting out with building a portfolio. My first gig is a wedding on the 8th August. Any tips
will help. We're having a trial a week before the wedding. My bride is black with a bit of an oily skin & it's a day wedding. I'm sooooo
nervous ya'll. I'm glad I finally joined you guys.

Hi all,
I'm Monica. I currently live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (ughhh!). I've always been into skin care forever, so finally last year I went to the Institute of Beauty and Wellness. I finished as an esthetician, but realized my true passion is makeup. I am trying to start to build my makeup kit but trying to find the best products, but still not sure. It's a huge investment and I want to make sure I'm using quality products. I've been having problems trying to find photographers to test with. I also would like to go to some workshops but can't seem to find them. It's been hard but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it as a makeup artist! |

well, here goes! my name is janel and i'm another newbie to this forum. hailing from louisville, ky; originally from columbus, oh. by day i am a retail
manager and rather late in life (i'm almost 50) i am deciding to pursue becoming a working MUA. no formal training, all self taught and very interested in
working very hard at achieving this goal. as i am coming so late into the game, i really don't have time to fool around if i am to achieve even a portion
of what i wish. not that i'm saying that i want to cut corners, just that i have to use my time wisely! anyway, i'm feeling a little intimidated,
which is very unusual for me, as i'm known for jumping in with both feet and asking questions later (A LOT LATER, LOL!) anyway, here's hoping that my
questions aren't too repetitive or dumb and that you will all offer this newbie true constructive criticism. happy new year the blessings to all!

I must not have thought i could post to this thread when i first came here. I apologize. I am new to the thread and really excited to be here. I already got
yelled at, but i am guessing that is something i have to get used to in a thread. Everyone has their own ways of dealing with things. Haha. I am a
photographer/Makeup artist. I work for myself and love it. I live in Idaho/Utah and business is really slow but I love what i do none the less.

Weird, I thought I had posted a reply but it is gone. Anyway, I do know elle owns the site and I think her work to keep the spam out is top notch, (thanks elle
for making our time here better!) However I do feel obligated to clear this up for myself and others, I made sure not to ask anyone to vote for me, but to go
see if they felt i was the one worth voting for, I can't expect that someone would just vote for me without believing at least a little bit that I should
win before voting. Also you are probably right "yelled at" was not the right word to use, but being scolded before ever given a chance was what I was
meaning more and should have said it properly. I apologize for that. That being said, I am happy to be here, I have a lot to learn about how this place runs,
and hope to learn more about what I do, and help others to learn more as well.
