Newbie here! My name is Molly Hutchins, if that wasn't obvious
I'm a part time makeup artist in Anchorage, Alaska, and full time corporate trainer. Makeup is where my heart is! I have to work the corporate 9-5 to keep the bills paid and put hubby through college, but hopefully after he graduates I can really dive head first into promoting myself and someday do makeup full time. I just quit working for MAC (poke, jab, I know I, know...) but I value the experience it gave. Since quitting to pursue my own freelance goals, I've had more jobs than I can handle! I guess there is a shortage of artists here in Alaska Anyway, my ultimate goal is to head to California and do makeup in the adult industry. Don't judge! LOL I'm glad to have found this place, everyone seems so helpful! |

Hiya- I'm Kat(hy) Aragon. I'm based out of D.C.
I've been on this board almost 4 years now but for most of that time I still felt "newbie-ish" just from the fact that I wasn't working consistent day rate jobs. It still felt too sporadic and I had lots of questions. Anyways here I am, years after joining, finally at a place in my career where I am content with being at for a while. I do mainly commercial print/editorial work through my agency now with a sprinkle of corporate videos and commercials that I get freelance now and then. I have a rather large family for being in my late 20's (3 lil girls under 7!) so it can't be said I didn't have to work really hard to be able to get the jobs I'm finally getting today. My husband Luis decided to come along on the journey with me, picked up a camera, and he too has been making some major accomplishments in a short time that he's been doing this. I wish I could work with him more but we do our stuff together when we can on the weekends. One day he hopes to do it full time but we're patient. No rush here |

Hallooo! I'm Siân (strangely pronounced 'sharn'). I joined the board about a year and a half ago. I'm totally a newb: been out of school for a little over two years and been working on my book in that time. I lived in New York City for the past year but am now back in Toronto (hooarh to dual citizenship). Right now I am taking a break from my career due to a family tragedy, but when I'm back on my feet, I'll be the local rep for FACE atelier and doing other fun amazing stuffs!
Also, I love Red Apple Jelly Bellies, Hershey Kisses and polaroid cameras. I don't go anywhere without my iPod and am usually attached to my macbook if I'm not out. I am addicted to books and fashion magazines. And Heroes is my all time favorite show, along with The Office, Psych, House and Criminal Minds. |

hi Tania (end rest of girls)
my name is Ray, I'm a Makeup Artist, I work in LA and bits in NYC, I almost always say what I think and call things as they are, some people take offence but I am a nice person most of the time I have been here for a while, 4 years or more(?) I am not contributing much these days because this place is annoying to me at times, so I need to disappear for a while, but I'm always back. Seriously, I think this board is a fantastic tool for all young peeps serious about their careers, I have learned tons being here, people here are very generous with their knowledge. I wish I had time to read more and hang in here. PS1. this thread was created for newbies, the ones that keep appearing here out of nowhere or just lurk and don't post anything, this is your chance guys to introduce yourselves, so we know (kind of ) who you are and you won't be a stranger when you'll need to ask a question or need an opinion on your work or... PS2. please don't turn this thread into one with pictures with your husbands, kids, grandmas, dogs, cats, birds and God knows what else |

Hi All!
My name is Mandy, and I'm a part time makeup artist located on the beautiful Gold Coast, Queensland Australia. (There's a couple of us Aussies here). I started in this industry nearly 5 yrs ago, and I prefer to work in film and T.V. (I love doing gory SPX!) I only work part time as my 'other' life consists of raising kids, building a house, and running a mini farm. Phew! There is SOOOOOO much to learn from this board, and some wonderfully interesting personalities here, so join in all you newbies and introduce yourself, as most of the people here that have answered this thread pretty know each other via posts and the 'chat room" - where we all have lots of fun! Cheers, and G'day! |

Hey, I'm Sue, another Aussie, I live in Brisbane. For the last four years, I lived in Tropical North Queensland (hence the screen name) - the destination wedding capital of Australia, where I owned a very busy, very lucrative Bridal Hair & Makeup business. However, at the beginning of this year, I sold that business and moved to Brisbane where I've spent the last 6 months testing. So, although I've been doing makeup for 6 years now, I consider myself a newbie, as I've only just started working on my book. I've gone from being a big fish in a very small pond, to being a nobody. Its humbling to start at the beginning again, and I truly consider this board a blessing - for all the stuff I needed to learn (or re-learn), and good honest opinions on my work. I love that the vets here tell it like it is, and live in hope that one day I will post something to be told "that rocks".

Hi, I am Heather, also from the Washington DC area. I have been here since July 2003. I have learned so much here and met some awesome folks and started friendships. Like Kathy, I am at a place where I am pretty content with freelancing full time. I do some commercial print and editorial work as well as a lot of tv and video work. I also do corporate head shots too.
In the beginning of my career, it was a struggle and still can be a struggle at times, but I love it so much, I can't get away from it. It helps when you have friends to be there each other and support each other. Heather

Hi folks, I am Sophie, from Paris, France.
I've been on the board for a year now and I have learnt so much. When I arrived I read the whole FAQ and the whole forum actually. I couldn't get enough! But I probably asked dumb question nevertheless. I am now a full time freelancer but still a baby and I have some secret cards I can pull to make enough money not to starve, aside from make up. Shhh... I am now trying to assist some agency artist. I am very happily married, I love reading, shopping (I looove Paris, always been there but cannot get enough! Uh I see a pattern), having coffee with friends. And photography in general. My husband Math is a photographer, not pro (yet?) and he really gave me the confidence to pursue my career in make up artistry. Welcome to all the newcomers! And thanks for the vets who gave me so many precious informations and advices I cannot count them! Thank you Emelle for making this place what it is! You're better than any make up school (I know, I had a training but learnt so much more here, and for free!) |

My name is Evelyn (Evey for short) and I have been freelancing for 2 1/2 years. I didn't work a lot my first year since I was still a new mommy, but I threw in a couple tests to start off my book. This year has been great. I found an amazing artist and friend i have been assisting and I've learned SO much ever since. I've worked mainly in the film & TV scene, but I enjoy photoshoots just as much. I love vintage everything and that's where I draw my inspirations from. I am freelancing part time while working my 9-5. My goal is to get to the point where I am freelancing full time and be very succesfull doing what I love. On my down times I love spending time with my family. I have a 3 year old son (which is a hand full right now. When are the terrible two's ending?!?) and I am happily married. I am so glad I found this forum. I have learned so much from all of you. I am mostly a lurker since there is soooo much info. on here to catch up on. O.k. I'll stop now. Sorry it's long but I never gave a proper introduction. Nice to met all of you! |

Hi all! I'm Jessica and I've been a member of this board for almost a year. I've been doing makeup for about 6-7 years ago but only started full-time since May after graduating from college. I was going to be an elem. school teacher but I found myself thinking about makeup all the time while student teaching and I realized I couldnt do anything other than makeup.
I mostly love to do print makeup but do a lot of bridal and some corporate to make $. This board is awesome and it's so fun getting to know everybody! |

Hey All-
For those who don't me, I'm David and I've been in makeup for about 12 years now. For examples of my work and biographical details, check out my website davidklasfeld.com. I'm also the owner of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, and prior to that I did product development and training at several other lines, before venturing off on my own. I've also been a makeup educator for the past 5 years, and have presented workshops on subjects ranging from Makeup for Women of Color to Airbrush and more, at the Powder Group, MUD, Rouge Makeup Studio, CNoMA, and a few others. I'm also a self-confessed makeup junkie who's been obsessed with it since I was 5 years old and at the birthday party of a friend who got one of those Makeup-Me-Up Barbie Heads. When I dove to snatch it away from her and open it myself, my mother pulled me aside and told me, "Boys don't play with makeup." She wasn't too thrilled 10 years later when instead of signing up for after-school sports, I was appointed the makeup department head of my High School's theater, but now she's thrilled about it, and just wants to make sure I leave enough time in my schedule to do her makeup for parties, functions, etc. EmElle and I unfortunately got off to a pretty rocky start on one of those other boards that need not be mentioned, but she's secretly one of my favorite people in the industry, and I'm thrilled to (finally) be a member of this board. Thanks! DK |

Hi Everyone! I am mostly just a lurker so I thought this is my chance to say hello! I am a part-time makeup artist in the Toronto area who is most definitely still in the building my book phase. I taken the past year off, mostly working in the bridal industry but I am motivated to start improving my portfolio.
I love the FAQS and learning from all of you! This board is the best education a make-up artist could get. Also a shout out to our Aussie members. I feel for you guys. I spent 3 weeks last March in Surfer's Paradise/Brisbane and I could not believe the price of makeup. I thought it was bad for us Canadians but I can see why ordering your supplies on-line is still a ton cheaper. Have to say though your country beautiful so I guess it is worth it - ha,ha! Okay, so now hopefully I will get up the nerve to post some of my work for some feedback on here or if you are willing to give me your honest opinion of what I need to work on you can check my work out under the name LindseyBMakeup on MM. |
