Can you smaller kit peeps give us that travel to jobs with broken backs some input to help us have more $$ in our bank accounts and less in our friendly neighborhood Chiropractor's account?

I want to have a small kit packed neatly in ONE Mary Poppins-like bag that I can pull anything I need magically out of!! My kit is HUGE too like many of the kits I have seen in here. A few people have mentioned (like kitty) that those kits seem like way too much stuff to carry.

A few years ago I was in dire straits and needed to sell my car. My new means of transport being the train and my bike, I needed to scale down my kit drastically, because my back was already killing me back then. What I did was this:
I took out every single item that I hadn't used in at least a year. I scaled down on q-tips, tissues, cotton wool etc.. (which meant I hade to refill more often). Bought a small case that would hold everything that was left, except my hair stuff. That I put in a medium sized back pack. That way I could wear my hand bag across my upper body, the back pack on my back, and the small make-up case in one hand, leaving the other hand free. When on my bike, I would put the make-up case on the back of the bike, the rest stayed the same. 18 months later, when I could afford to buy another car, I realized I had not missed one single item from my old kit even ONCE, AND lost 10 kilos with my back intact. I promissed myself I would never schlepp around excess kit ever again. Of course, after the new car arrived, it took but 3 weeks for the trunk to fill up again Right now I still use that small kit, but it's stationary at my regular job. I'll try and take some pictures of it next time I'm there. Monique Heijboer

After my last ne grew legs, and at both makeup shows they sold out to rapidly, anyone know who has the best price on the Japonesque foundation palettes, or something similar? I like my empty CS palettes, but would like something a little less cluttery.
After I finish moving, and get myself organized again, I promise to post my kit of craziness. @->-- So, that's how we quit the forest... =Cows aren't as sexy as Cats= |

Marty, do you like the yaby palette idea used with the empties? you can choose large or small empties to fill your foundations in and put it in either a 20 well palette, 8 well palette or freestyle palette.

I am bumping this up again, and hope that kitty or someone with a very small functional kit will help to enLIGHTEN (get it? LIGHTEN my load) me with their kits!

Faith,
Those "organizers" are both from Home Depot...one was my fiancee's and one I bought for the case. They both fit PERFECTLY. I bet mine is one of the overly-packed kits by far, and I'm learning with practice and experience to see what exactly I'll need. It IS ever-shrinking though! And I've vowed that I WILL make it into the MUFE carrying case that Rachel, I think, showed us. That's my ultimate goal! I don't know where I'm going to put all my hair stuff then though :-( |

Okay, I am actually going to post my kit. I have condensed it down and now take it on a good 75% of the jobs that I do. It measures 6"h X 8"w X 5.5"d (15cm.h X 20.5cm.w X 14cm.w) and I can literally carry it in a handbag although its usually in a backpack with my hair kit:
Here it is closed: ![]() Here it is with contents exposed and layed out: ![]() ..and yes, power bars (Kashi or Luna) are staples in my kit... Here it is open (with brush roll nest to it) and contents packed away inside: ![]() Here it is open with brush roll tucked inside cover: ![]() On occassion, if the job calls for it, or, if I'm doing a creative, I will bring out the mothership, which is still quite small as well. I pack it so that I can carry it and so that it never exceeds 32 lbs. (approx. 17 kilos). It is a 17" x 8" X 7.5" rolling suitcase that continues to stand the test of time (going on close to 6 years)...Although comfy, I'm looking to further condense this into a 15"... This is a shot with it open, I did not have time to take panaramic pics of the kit from different angles etc, lol. ![]() I try to travel light. -K |

So I took Kittypink lead and scaled down my kit and now I have two.
My pink suitcase is the Mothership (awesome term Kitty) and now little midget for my commercial, catalog jobs. I switch my Mufe flash palette back and forth from two kits. I use Pink suitcase when I do beauty and editorials. This really saved my back, thanks for inspiration Kitty! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() V.

Awesome thread!
I want to pair down my kit, its getting ridiculous! I am just wondering what I could put my mufe face and body in to make them less bulky? I dont want to put them in anything that will crack obviously! Any ideas? |

I got all inspired last month and redid my kit. I didn't really take anything out, just bought a new labeller and some yaby/japonesque palettes.
Observe: www.alwaysmadeup.com/mykit.html Next I think I'll do a super compact "commercial" kit, so that I don't always have to bring my big bag along. But I do hate to be without EVERYTHING, so we'll see how long that lasts, haha. And Lucy, I know at The Container Store (http://www.thecontainerstore.com) here in NYC, they have no-leak screw cap plastic bottles. I've been keeping my nail polish remover in one and it hasn't leaked yet. I've been wanting to hunt down those plastic bottles with the little nipple tops that you snap on after filling it, but I haven't been able to find any. Booo. S. |

Oh no! That's terrible. :( I don't know what I'd do without the Container Store in my life. Do you have the paypal? If you want me to ship some stuffs to you, maybe we could sort that out. I live right by one here and don't mind. :)

Finally decided to stop waiting to do "the next thing" organizing and just post it - here is My Kit.
One of these days I'll fish out my labeller and put non handwritten labels on things..... and finish packing some of my creams in... and find smaller bottles for some things... I've not see anyone store lashes like I do, so either I'm doing something "wrong" or it's a new way of carrying 50+ lashes. Oh and yes, it normally does look this clean... I'm fanatical about not having things get messy at all. Noella |
