Well, aside from people's personal issues with Crystal, in the context of the OPs question it's not really relevant as Mary is not at all a new artist. Her issue is one of what to do as an established artist in a new market.

Answer: Start from scratch! You know the deal, girl. Get to know your market and start sending your promos and emails and start making those phone calls. One thing I will say about being full time in a major market vs what I sense happens in some of the smaller markets: That doesn't really stop. It's never in your best interest to get too comfortable because there's no "Big Fish in a Small Pond" going down in this market. There's lots of work, but also lots of artists competing for said work. This is definitely a hustler's market. That said, with your port and resume, it really shouldn't be a problem for you to start connecting with folks and while most clients and/or photographers are fairly fickle, you'll always get your loyal folks that will make your life much easier.
